| The Skagway Pier has the only duel gage track (3' and 4' 8 1/2") in Alaska. When the pier was built, they were considering converting WP&Y to standard gage. It proved to be a bad idea because it would have taken more time to widen the rock cut ledges in White Pass to accommodate the wider track then it took to build the railroad and it would not have been cost effective. |
